What size skip bin do I need?
Most home clean-outs suit a 3m³ or 4m³ bin; renovations usually need a 6m³. Heavy loads like concrete or soil need a smaller bin than you'd think, because of the weight.
| Size | Roughly holds (240 L wheelie bins) | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| 2m³ | About 8 | Garage or shed tidy, garden clean-up, small bathroom strip-out |
| 3m³ | About 12 | One or two rooms cleared, small renovation |
| 4m³ | About 16 | Whole garage, kitchen or bathroom renovation |
| 6m³ | About 25 | House clean-out, larger renovation, big garden job |
Heavy waste: concrete, brick, tile and soil
Heavy bins can only be filled part-way so the truck stays within its legal load: about 60% on a 4m³ and about half on a 6m³. For heavy jobs, a 2m³ or 3m³ is often the right choice.

Questions
Is it better to go bigger?
If you're unsure between two sizes, the bigger one is usually cheaper than a second bin later.
Can I mix general waste with concrete?
Yes, in a general waste bin. A concrete or soil bin must hold only concrete, brick, tile or asphalt, or clean soil, otherwise it's charged as a general waste bin.
